What Is the Healthy Lompoc Coalition?
The Healthy Lompoc Coalition is a multi-sector stakeholder group created in response to the growing problem of obesity and physical inactivity in our community.
What Will the Healthy Lompoc Coalition Do?
The Coalition will address the social, political and environmental barriers to health. It will help Lompoc families live a healthier lifestyle by working to increase access to healthy food and opportunities for physical activity.
By teaming up with local health professionals to provide information and education to seniors, children, and their families about healthy living. By working with community partners such as the Lompoc Unified School District, Police Department, Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce, Lompoc Hospital, and YMCA to provide opportunities for kids and adults to get involved in fun, active, healthy events. By engaging local leadership and advocating for health in all policies. And by developing and implementing strategic directions created by the community to make Lompoc a healthy eating and active living oasis.
How Does This Affect Me?
Currently it is estimated the 48% of children in Lompoc are overweight. That is 10% more than any other city in our country. Being overweight is challenging for children and adults, but it is also really expensive! Studies show that healthier people live longer, have a better quality of life, are sick less often - and spend less money on healthcare cost every year. It pays to be healthy!
The Lompoc Valley Community Healthcare Organization (LVCHO) facilitates and provides staff for the collaborative. To find out more about the people who are making this happen, please click the Meet The Team link above or in the drop down menu.
